Why I Do This Work

I've spent over 20 years in urban education—as a teacher, leader, and principal. I've seen firsthand what a positive school culture can do for students, staff, families, and entire communities.
But I've also seen the disparities.
I've watched brilliant students labeled as "problems" and pushed out of school. I've seen teachers burn out because they felt unsupported. I've witnessed racial disproportionality in discipline data—not just as an educator, but as a parent of color navigating the system for my own children.
 
I saw a need for change. So I created it.

Dr. Yolanda Peay is a New York State certified educator and school district leader with a Master of Science in Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum & Instruction. She is also the author of The Mirror: Imagine the Unimaginable.
